Breastfeeding benefits

Your breastmilk is specially designed to meet your baby’s needs. Your breastmilk provides all the nutrients including breastmilk-carried immunity for your baby and reduces the risk of SUDI.

For some mothers breastfeeding can be challenging for a variety of reasons.  Speak to your midwife for further advice and support if you experience problems.

The benefits of breast feeding your baby and the different breast feeding positions that you will find useful can be found here.

While breast feeding, it is important to ensure you remain eating healthy, as these nutrients will be transferred to your baby. This guide will assist you with foods that will provide the greatest benefits to your baby while breastfeeding.

Breastfeeding support

Although breastfeeding is a natural process, it doesn’t come naturally for some women. It is therefore important you are getting support with breastfeeding as it is not always an easy task! Talk to your partner, midwife, family or friends early to avoid problems escalating. Specialised help such as a lactation consultant is also available to assist you should you continue to experience problems at home with your little one.
